SpringFEST, an annual spring concert coordinated and hosted by MIT’s Undergraduate Association Events Committee (UA) is one of the largest student-run events on campus. This year, the show opened with MIT’s very own artist Solstice Fayemz, followed up by headliner 6LACK, a three-time Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter.
Alice Zhang, a junior and co-chair of the UA Events Committee says the work into planning MIT’s annual SpringFEST concert happens in December. The committee reviews student survey data from last year’s event and work with their advisor from the Student Activities Office (SAO) and an agent on selecting an artist.
“The best part about being co-chairs of UA events is the sense of satisfaction you feel when the event is over. You are really able to see all the moving parts that come together to make it possible and appreciate it’s success,” says Zhang.
Nearly 800 tickets were sold for this year’s event and despite the inclement weather, it brought many students, smiles, laughter, and groovy dance moves to Johnson Ice Rink.
In addition to the spring concert, the UA also plans a comedy show in the fall as part of FallFEST, Student Faculty Dinners, and Tech Twinkles.
Zhang mentions that being a part of the UA Events Committee provides a great opportunity to be involved in planning events that are an important aspect of student life.
“Having a spring concert is a classic undergraduate student event, and it is great to see so many students from different parts of campus coming out to enjoy what we have planned!” says Zhang.
